How to Diagnose a Dishwasher Problem Before Calling

   Confirm the door latch seats fully

   Dishwashers won't start with an unseated door — push firmly until the latch clicks. A broken latch tab is a quick repair but requires removing the door panel.

   Remove and rinse the filter

   Twist out the cylindrical filter from the center of the tub floor. Rinse it under running water. A clogged filter causes poor cleaning and standing water simultaneously.

   Clear the spray arm holes

   Spin the spray arms by hand — they should rotate freely. Remove and rinse them if any holes are blocked with mineral deposits or food debris.

   Run hot water at the sink before starting a cycle

   Cold water entering the wash pump reduces cleaning and can cause the cycle to stall. Run the sink tap until the water is genuinely hot, then start the dishwasher.

   Schedule service for leaks or persistent error codes

   Water pooling under the door or on the floor, and error codes that return after resetting, point to pump seals, door gaskets, or a control-board fault — professional repair only.
